Fortune Cookie

Video for panorama 360 degree projection, 3min 30s, 2010 (2005)
1 channel for multiple display

shown at „Nightshots“, Homebase Berlin, 2010 in a 2 day event curated by Michiel Brand and Nicole Loeser

This video features a somewhat narcissist, attention craving fortune cookie and many TV colour bars which move rhythmically and faster and faster. (For some people colour bars might be associated with times when TV channels still had broadcasting breaks during night time.) The audio track was compiled in Garage Band using ready made loops and a cartoonish voice that proclaims to be the greatest invention since sliced bread and to have found enlightenment. „Fortune Cookie“ is a somewhat ironic protest against overinflated egos and a permanent need of self-represenation which ultimately don’t leave much room for conversation – creating a world of monadic monsters each shouting louder than the other „me, me, me“.

I was asked to participate in a two day event at a bar/ lounge showcasing an integrated 360 degrees panorama projection screen, which is made from 9 partial projections. The idea of the event was „art meets film (meets bar meets music) at night“. This Video was specially devised for the situation. Nevertheless it can well be adapted to similar other situations
